Benedictine High School

On Thursday, October 19th, 275 junior high students from six area grade schools visited Benedictine High School for the school’s eighth annual Zoology Day.  Zoology Day introduces students to the world of zoological science and exotic animal care.

Coordinated by Benedictine’s science department, the day features presenters, hands-on demonstrations and information on the “Save the Tiger” Program.

The centerpiece of Zoology Day was Bennie IX, a Bengal tiger cub that serves as the school’s goodwill ambassador and a science learning aid.  Each year, Bennie is adopted by the Benedictine Alumni Association from Stump Hill Farm in Massillon, Ohio.  Cindy Huntsman, co-owner of Stump Hill Farm is also a featured presenter at Zoology Day along with The Akron Zoo, Lake Metropark Wildlife Center, The Animal Guys and a representative from NOAH-The Northern Ohio Association of Herpetologists.

“In keeping with this year’s Benedictine is …global theme, we welcomed the grade school students and the variety of exotic animals to the Benedictine community,” stated Principal Sal Miroglotta.  “From caring to Bennie to exploring the world of zoological science, we not only learn about the plight of the endangered species, but more importantly, we instill in our students and our grade school visitors a sense of respect and stewardship for their planet and all of God’s creatures.”
